Area yarn spinners are invited to audition for the Chattanooga Downtown Partnership’s second annual TaleSpin Festival, a major storytelling festival to be held in downtown Chattanooga from May 10 -13.
Local tellers who would like to be considered for a performance at the 2007 TaleSpin Festival must participate in a brief storytelling audition. Auditions will be held at the Chattanooga Hamilton County Bicentennial Library Auditorium on Friday, February 23, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and Saturday, February 24, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Entrants must complete a form and schedule a time to audition. Applications may be downloaded from the Chattanooga Downtown Partnership website at www.downtownchattanooga.org or you may email Ann Ball at to request an application.
TaleSpin Festival, presented by UBS, is designed to showcase storytellers from all walks of life with themes that include youth stories, cultural stories, humorous stories, historical stories and more. National tellers scheduled for the 2007 TaleSpin Festival include Tim Tingle, David Holt, Donna Washington, Kathryn Windham, Bil Lepp, and Donald Davis.
A Thursday-night kickoff event will be held at the historic Tivoli Theatre. Friday will feature youth-oriented telling during the day at Ross’s Landing, followed by telling for all ages and ghost stories under the night sky. A full day of more tales for all ages will continue on Saturday followed by another evening of ghost stories. There will be a separately-ticketed Mother’s Day storytelling breakfast cruise aboard the Southern Belle Riverboat on Sunday.
The TaleSpin Festival is designed to showcase the rich storytelling traditions in the Chattanooga region. Therefore, participation by local tellers will greatly add to the flavor of the festival. For more information please visit www.downtownchattanooga.org, email Ann Ball at , or call .
