Eddie Gravitte Named Principal

By

Eddie and Katrina Gravitte
Dear Signal Mountain Friends and Neighbors:

The Founders’ Fund is pleased and delighted to welcome Eddie Gravitte, the new Signal Mountain Middle/High School Principal to our community. We look forward with great anticipation to working with him and incorporating his ideas and goals into our fundraising efforts.

After completing his education at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Mr. Gravitte has spent the last 14 years in various roles with the Hamilton County school system. He brings his varied experience as a teacher, a coach, and an administrator to his new position. According to Mr. Gravitte, his goal of one day becoming the principal of Signal Mountain High School has existed since his tenure began as a History teacher at Signal Mountain Middle School.

A graduate of Baylor School, Mr. Gravitte served as assistant principal at Red Bank Middle School and assistant principal at Red Bank High School prior to taking the position as the principal at Hixson High School in 2005.

One of his first tasks at Hixson was to form a Site Leadership Team consisting of administrators, academy lead teachers, guidance counselors, media specialists, students, and parents. It included developing and implementing a three-year plan to restructure the high school. His success with this endeavor and his experience implementing academy programs should prove invaluable as he leads our community in opening our new Signal Mountain High School.

We are fortunate that with his experience comes a familiarity with our community, an understanding of Signal Mountain’s long tradition of community support and involvement, and an appreciation for our expectations for excellence in education. We are confident that he has the vision required to fill our school with innovative programs, creative teachers, and highly successful students.

The new zoning plan has been approved by the Hamilton County Board of Education and Eddie Gravitte will officially take on his role as the Signal Mountain Middle and High School principal on July 1st, 2007. The Founders’ Fund’s immediate plans include organizing a series of meetings and events to allow our new principal to meet community members. These are very exciting times and we encourage you to join us in giving Mr. Gravitte our full support and encouragement as we begin our new and ongoing partnership.

Most Sincerely,

Lisa Shander, Founders’ Fund Co-Chair
Stephen Monroe, Founders’ Fund Co-Chair
