Annual SM Scramble to Benefit MEF

The Board of Directors of the Signal Mountain Golf and Country Club voted to name the Mountain Education Fund (MEF) as the benefiting organization of the 3rd Annual Signal Mountain Scramble Golf Tournament. The event began three years ago in response to Thrasher Elementary School’s capital drive to build a gymnasium. “The event has had incredible community support in the past,” says Scott Hare, golf club manager and head pro. “We expect this year to be no exception.”

“We are thrilled that the Signal Mountain Golf Club has chosen Mountain Education Fund as the recipient this year,” comments Karlette Baker, incoming MEF Chairwoman for 2005-06. “This event, in conjunction with our phonathon and direct mail campaign, will go a long way in supporting public education on the mountain.” The Mountain Education Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to quality education and the academic success of Signal Mountain students.

In addition to two shotgun rounds of golf, the tournament will have a silent auction with some spectacular items open for bidding. Tara Linehart, chairwoman of the tournament this year, says her committee is already hard at work to insure a successful event. In addition to playing in the tournament ($400/team), the committee is also looking for business and individual sponsors. “From silent auction items to hole and cart sponsors, we’ll have a variety of sponsorship levels,” adds Tara. “We are hopeful that the high turnout for this tournament will give sponsors the visibility they desire.”

For additional information about the tournament or to find out more about sponsorship and volunteer opportunities, contact Scott Hare at Signal Mountain Golf and Country Club or Tara Linehart at or email .
