“Ripe and Ready Players”

By ANNE RITTENBERRY

This is a production you won’t want to miss! The Ripe and Ready Players, under the direction of Suzanne Carter, will be performing one of their hilarious shows of vignettes and songs on June 11 at 4 p.m. at the Mountain Arts Community Center. There is no admission charge.

The R & R Players are sponsored by Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors, United Way, as well as Allied Arts whose ArtsReach Project is bringing local talent into Chattanooga neighbors.

This is a marvelous opportunity for us to experience this talented senior theater company’s fast wit and irreverent punches. These players are a diverse lot, some never having done any theater until their time was ripe and they had the bravado to get up and bring down the house and others veterans of many stages.

The show, billed as the “Saturday Night Live version for older adults,” will delight all ages.

Nationwide reviews for the troupe have been highly complimentary. After a performance in Charleston, SC, at Spoleto, The Charleston Post and Courier raved about “this fine troupe of enthusiastic, energetic and thoroughly entertaining senior citizens with a zest for living.” The Anne Colby of “Modern Maturity” Magazine exuded, after the company’s performance in Chicago, “The Troup, which tours from September through May . . . , has had kudos from the founder of Chicago’s Second City theater group.”

Suzanne Carter, whose creative talents conceived of this company and directs it dramatically and musically, complete graduate studies at the College Conservatory of Music in Cincinatti. She has additionally performed opera, musical theater and jazz for ten years in NYC and Europe. She is now on the theater faculty at UTC and performs jazz at local venues.
