Twelve Signal Mountain Homeschool Students To Graduate

Jonathan Carmack, son of Richard and Kerri Carmack, plans to major in business at Lipscomb University. He has taken six mission trips, with four in Honduras, and has volunteered for two years at the Inner City Church of Christ. Listed in Who’s Who Among American High School Students, he attended Harding Honors Symposium, and works at Carmack Construction.
As she has the past four summers, Lora Beth Champagne will work at Fort Bluff Camp/National Association of Christian Athletes and sports tournaments. Her interests include church work, mission trips, guitar, friends and computers. The daughter of John and Sheila Champagne, her favorite school memory is Homeschool Day at Lake Winnie.
An educational highlight while studying the Civil War, Kaysie Danielle Cumbest and her family visited Gettysburg, purchasing vintage dresses and enjoying tea rooms. She will continue a lifestyle of learning pursuing her many interests. Someday, she hopes to homeschool her children as have her parents, Dennis and Cindy Cumbest.
At Signal Crest United Methodist Church, Tyler Forsythe held youth leadership positions and took several mission trips. He works at Pruetts and Quality Lawn & Landscapes. His parents are Tim and Jane Forsythe and Rob and Carrie Goodwin. His special interests include Spanish, and playing the drums, and bongos.
An accomplished Latin student will study chemistry or languages at Covenant College having been awarded The Presidential Scholarship. The daughter of Conni and Sandy Gardner, Molly Gardner achieved high honors on several National Latin Exams, in prose, and poetry. Baking, Shakespeare Troupe, NASA, and sewing are additional interests.
Interests for Daniel Hangstefer include tennis, winning a Tennessee State Closed Championship and enjoying life. He appreciates that homeschooling allowed him to be with his family and parents, Jim and Pat Hangstefer. In addition, he didn’t have to start his day too early in the morning and could work at Smoothie King.
The twins of David and Jeannie Henry, Ashley and Cate Henry will attend the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. They volunteered for Inner City Ministry and M.O.P.S. (Mother’s of Pre-schoolers). Ashley’s favorite academic subjects are chemistry and biology. She likes music, movies, being with family and friends, and family vacations. She has been awarded Outstanding Tennis Player while she and Cate both received Sportsmanship awards. Cate enjoys tennis, soccer, reading, running and math. Cate appreciates that homeschooling diminished peer pressure.
Participating in three Gilbert and Sullivan musicals of the Chattanooga Southeast Tennessee Home Education Association (CSTHEA) provided special memories for Allison Holmes. She enjoyed Spanish, played the flute in the Red Bank Baptist Church Orchestra, and was awarded God and Life in Venture Scouts. Sibling Nathan Holmes, an Eagle Scout, was awarded Best Amateur Video 2006, Chattanooga State Mass Communications. He will intern at Clear Channel and be a radio disc jockey. Allison and Nathan Holmes attend Chattanooga State and work at 517 Subs with their parents, Russ and Sara Holmes. Both students appreciate their parent’s commitment and support to homeschool.
Another Who’s Who Among American High School Students is Daniel Kelley, son of Pat and Danette Kelley, and member of Eta Sigma Alpha National Home School Honor Society. Making a video commercial with Nathan Holmes and Daniel Hangstefer provided a favorite school memory. Daniel will pursue an Engineering degree.
A five year homeschool band member, and daughter of Richard and Deborah Rapp, Sarah E. Rapp, will study Interior Design at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. At First Presbyterian Church she has held youth leadership positions. Several music awards include second in the Central School Arts Recital Performance and superior rating in the Florence Piano Festival.
