HATS OFF to Signal Mountain

By staff writer

Get fit, explore, and relax. Three simple activities one can do as much or as little as one likes. Last month I mentioned all the wonderful opportunities offered by the Town of Signal Mountain at the recreation center, pool, library, and Mountain Arts Community Center. If you or your children have not signed up for some of these activities, check them out to see what is still happening and available.

COME SUPPORT THE GREEN GIANTS. Don’t forget that everyone is invited to cheer on the Signal Mountain Swim Team, the “Green Giants”, at the Developmental Swim Meet. HATS OFF to the swimmers, the coaches, and the families who support the Green Giants Swim Team.

Many of the local organizations on the mountain take time off during the summer months. Most reorganize late in the spring and start up in the fall with a new slate of officers. And so they take time to plan the next year’s events, come up with new ideas, and avoid burnout. I hope that these past few months, I have been able to bring to you some of the great things offered during the year by these organizations. If you want more information or would like to consider becoming active in one or more of them, please call me and I will get you in touch with the right person.

In the meantime, there are some things going on that everyone needs to be aware of. Time is running out to make changes in your listing in the new 2 Signal Mountain Directory. If you need to make a change, please call or NOW. Remember, this Directory is more than just a little book of numbers. It is a major fundraiser for the Signal Mountain Community Guild used to support many worthy projects on the mountain. They need our support. If you would like to place an ad, call or . So take out your current lavender colored book and make sure your telephone and address are correct and listed as you like. CALL TODAY.

Rehearsal is in full swing for the Signal Mountain Playhouse production of STATE FAIR. Show dates are July 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 & 27. The Alexian Auxiliary needs ongoing support from the community with a variety of activities including BINGO at both the Health Care and Valley Residence as well as weekly grooming assistance. Call Vicki Love at for more information. The Town of Signal Mountain Town Council is in the process of forming the 2 Budget. Scheduled meetings for residents to ask questions were held during the month of May. Currently, the meeting to present the Budget is scheduled for June 10th at the Town Hall at the regularly scheduled Town Council Meeting. For more information, call the Town Hall at . The Signal Mountain Chamber of Commerce has as its guest speaker, Linda Nelson from the Signal Mountain Travel Agency. Finally, Signal Fellowship is off for the summer, however, Highlanders will have a "Lunch Bunch" outing on Thursday, June 6 to the Park Place Restaurant in Fort Oglethorpe. They are also going to the Cumberland County Playhouse on Thursday, July 11 to see a matinee performance of "Annie Get Your Gun", with lunch beforehand at the Cumberland Mountain State Park For more information or to make reservations for either of these two events, call and ask for Susan.

HATS OFF to all the organizations on the mountain for their ongoing support of our communities.

Still can’t find anything to occupy your time? Think about exploring some of the great places in and around Walden’s Ridge like Rainbow Lake, Edward’s Point, Signal Point, Cumberland State Park, and Prentice Cooper. Just want to relax? Take in some of the great parks and peaceful places on our mountain: the Pumpkin Patch, the Picnic Pavilion, Mabbit Springs, Union Chapel, and James Park, to name a few. For more details on all of these great places click on Recreation.

Many thanks, to all of you who have called or emailed me with dates and upcoming events. I especially appreciate updates on changes and corrections to things after our deadline. Please keep me up to date on what’s happening on our mountain. Have a great summer!
