For many of us, Africa remains a distant and inaccessible place. For a limited time however, the Okavango Delta, one of the most unique wilderness areas on the planet, is coming to the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX 3D Theater in a new film, African Adventure 3D: Safari in the Okavango.
The Delta, created by the flood waters of the Okavango, is so large it can be spotted from deep space like a giant hand, bringing relief to this otherwise desolate region. Little-known to the outside world until a few decades ago, this secluded maze of lagoons, channels and islands forms one of the most beautiful and pristine wildlife reserves on Earth.
This unique photo safari is led by South African zoologist Liesl Eichenberger who is joined by world-renowned wildlife filmmaker Tim Liversedge, for a thrilling adventure in the flooded desert. Through stunning 3D photography, they bring viewers “up close and personal” with a great variety of big-game animals such as crocodiles, hippos, elephants and lions. IMAX audiences will also be surrounded by one of the largest bird concentrations in the world.
The IMAX 3D camera places viewers in the passenger seat of several types of vehicles for this fascinating journey. Liversedge and Eichenberger lead this adventure by way of 4 wheel drive, a motor boat, and airboat and even a Mokoro, a canoe carved out of a tree trunk.
African Adventure 3D: Safari in the Okavango not only is a fun movie experience, it helps everyone develop a greater appreciation of why conservationists like Liversedge has been striving to ensure that the Okavango Delta is treated as a treasure; worth protecting for generations to come.
