Thanks to one of my fellow classmates in “Librarian School” I just recently found out about this wonderful program in Tennessee. It is called Books from Birth. Governor Bredesen implemented it in 2004 and it provides a new, age-appropriate, hardcover book every month to their registered children from birth to age five at no cost to the family, regardless of income. More than 3,596,492 Imagination Library books have been delivered to Tennessee children since October 2004.
To get more information and register for this program, go to www.governorsfoundation.org and click on the “Find my Imagination Library!” link to find the registration website for your county. For instance, Hamilton County residents will go to www.uwchatt.org/ReadyforSchool to enroll your child.
Please pass this information on to anyone with a child or grandchild under five years old!
