CHATTANOOGA FLYING DISC CLUB

By

What is the Chattanooga Flying Disc Club (CFDC)? —

The CFCD has been around in one form or another for many years and is now an official tax exempt organization. Our Purpose is to educate the public about disc sports and to foster local and national competition in the arena of disc sports with an emphasis on youth programs. Our Goal is to create better “disc scenarios” in our area. We want to build a strong foundation for our youth to develop physically, mentally and spiritually through participating in the sports we love and cherish—ultimate and disc golf (the greatest team and individual sports, ever, respectively.)

Chattanooga is home to one of the strongest disc communities in Tennessee. The CFDC is working to make Chattanooga the best little disc city anywhere.
The CFDC has a dream of finding a home for our growing disc sports needs—20+ acres of flat open field space for ultimate leagues and tournaments and 20+ acres of mixed woods and rolling open space for a disc golf course would be ideal. We would share the space with soccer and rugby teams as well as single track mountain bikers, walkers, and cross country runners. If you know of such a place call or email us.

The CFDC is here to keep the momentum going and needs your help. If you have a passion for our great sports, please contact us as we could use your help.
Advertising opportunities are available, products and services can always be used as well. Anyone wishing to make a tax exempt monetary donation may send it to the CFDC at P.O. Box 4481, Chattanooga, TN, 37405.
Thank you.

DISC GOLF
We now have two Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) sanctioned disc golf tournaments a year including the largest disc golf tournament in the state the GRAPEViNE Classic which will be held in April 2008 at the Sinks disc golf course.
The Belch’n Turkey V—Part of the “RC Cola Moon Pie” and “Munch’n Drumsticks” Series, is a one-day PDGA “B” tier event is November 24th at two great courses, the Sinks and a temporary course at TVA’s Chickamauga Dam Recreation Area. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged online at www.titledisc.com or email forms to club web site. This event has filled up each year so don’t miss out! A disc design contest is underway. We are looking for a full color design for both a Sponsor Disc and Player’s Pack Disc. See the website for details.

The “2007 PDGA Amateur Worlds Championship” was held on July 24, 2007, Milwaukee, WI. Five local players represented Chattanooga in the “2007 Worlds” held over 5 days with over 500 players from all around the world attending. Through a CFDC scholarship two of our juniors competed in the 19 and under division. James Cole and Nick Phillips both made Chattanooga proud by displaying the highest level of sportsmanship and talent. James finished 8th for the tournament and took second in the long drive 490’ distance. Nick Phillips came home the “2007 Junior Amateur Worlds Champion” after shooting eight solid rounds of disc golf against the world’s best.
The CFDC is currently talking with the Parks and Recreation Departments in a couple of local cities about additional courses for the community. Our goal is to have five courses in our community at the end of five years. To do this we need your support. Talk about and introduce your friends and family to Disc Golf., help keep our courses clean, and encourage others to follow park rules.

ULTIMATE
Did you know? We have the state’s largest high school ultimate league, and the state’s biggest ultimate tournament —the Shawn Ray Adams Tourney and we hosted our section’s UPA Tournament this year at Camp Jordan. Winter League sign-ups begin October 1st with League beginning Dec. 2nd at Camp Jordan. Contact: Mike Alley, or email him at: . Message exchange is located at www.nakedpretzel.com/league/index.pl.

HIGH SCHOOL ULTIMATE
For the third consecutive Fall the Chattanooga Flying Disc Club will host a High School Ultimate League. What started with six teams in the Fall of 2005 has grown to include more than ten schools in the Greater Chattanooga area.  Teams participating in the league have gone on to compete at the state and national level. Men and women both get the opportunity to compete in the Coed League that runs for 10 weeks starting the week of September 10th. The season will culminate in an End of Season Tournament. Most games will be played at the BLVD Park Fields, but for the first time all teams will have the opportunity to host games. While Mccallie and Baylor hope to continue their run of league championships, they will be challenged by an experienced Ooltewah team, a hard running Red Bank squad, and a disciplined Lakeview/Fort Oglethorpe team. Wild cards include Notre Dame, and a spirited Hixson team. If you are interested in helping with the league, coaching a team, or finding a way to introduce ultimate to a high school in an area that doesn't currently have a team, please contact the CFDC via email at .
