On Friday June 20th, Catoosa County will open it’s first Disc Golf course a “9 Hole Junior Disc Golf Course” at the Jack Mattox Recreation Complex.
A joint partnership between the Catoosa County Parks and Recreation Department, the Chattanooga Flying Disc Club (CFDC) along with local support from Evergreen Synthetic Turf, Home Depot, and Ringgold Telephone company has made possible the addition of a 9 hole Disc Golf course to this beautiful local park, which already contains something for everyone with 7 ball fields, a walking track, a wetlands area, a pond, and now a new disc golf course.
Disc Golf played much like ball golf, in which the player’s goal is to make it from the Tee pad to the hole in the least amount of throws. A Frisbee like disc replaces the ball and club, while a baskets with chains acts as the hole to catch the thrown disc.
The Disc Golf course has been design with the junior and beginner level players in mind shorter distances and more open fairways will create a fun course with lots of possibilities. Disc Golf is a great way to enjoy a beautiful day. Disc Golf welcomes people of all ages and physical abilities, so come out and try something new! Join us for a nice walk in the park. The are “NO” Fees and “NO” Tee times required.
The Grand Opening will be celebrated on Friday June 20th; the day’s festivities will include a Free clinic to teach kids “How To Play Disc Golf” by CFDC from 1:30 PM - 3PM. Volunteers will be available to help teach basic skills, give basic instructions, and talk about the rules, disc golf etiquette, and more. Children attending the opening event will receive a free disc to get them started.
Everyone is welcome! All abilities and ages can enjoy this outdoor activity. The facilities are FREE to the public and disc can be purchased at any of the Grapevine locations (Hamilton Place, Broad & 26th, Signal Mtn.) Disc cost from $8-$18 and you only need one to get started.
