Local Girl Scout Begins Service Project for Silver Award
By Contributed Article
Sarah Wilson, member of STUDIO 2B Group 463, is a freshman at Red Bank High School, where she is a member of the band and STARS. She also is a member of Chattanooga Ballet, Girls Inc., a Venture Scout, and a student of Tutus and Tapshoes. Have I mentioned yet that Sarah is also a cancer survivor?
Sarah has completed the preliminary requirements for her Girl Scout Silver Award, and is now working on the final requirement, which is her service project. Surely it was her experience through the years of her battle with cancer that made her choice of a project so easy. Sarah says, “I know what it’s like to be in a hospital, bored out of my mind, with nothing to do.” She is putting together a craft center for the oncology room of the pediatric ward at Erlanger Hospital. She hopes this will give the children something fun to do while also helping them pass their time during this period of their lives. She plans to have a foam board with an example of each finished craft and instruction cards. Some of these crafts are groovy notebooks, hip clips, and CD faces.
Sarah says, “Everything costs money, so I need all the donations I can get.” She will have a collection box at Eyes on the Mountain and Something Sweet, where you can drop off any supplies you would like to donate. Supplies needed to make this possible are: white glue & glue sticks, notebooks to be decorated, decorative paper (scrapbook, wrapping), scissors (blunt kids’ and larger older kids’), colored pencils & markers, ribbon, stickers, coloring books, paper (white & colored), index cards, and paint pens.
Look for news of Sarah’s finished project later this year.
