TheatreExpress Brings Literature to Life

By

To all Educators:

AEC's TheatreExpress program is Chattanooga's only professional drama series designed for students in grades pre-K through 12. Held in the historic Tivoli Theatre, TheatreExpress productions enrich ARTS EDUCATION by providing professional, quality children's theatre, in-depth study guides that help weave the theatre arts experience into the classroom, and theatre etiquette guidelines. Productions tie in with school curriculum and help meet standard benchmarks in fine arts, language arts, social studies and more.

GRADES PRE K- THIRD – Harry the Dirty Dog - Based on the books by Gene Zion
Harry has everything a little white dog with black spots could want. There's just one problem: he hates taking baths. He hates them so much that he runs away. After a wonderful day of playing in the dirt, Harry gets so grubby that he turns into a little black dog with white spots and returns home to find that his family doesn't recognize him! This delightful musical captures both the whimsical humor and touching dedication to family found in Harry's story. Date – Monday, November 13, 2006, 10:00 and 12:00 performances.

GRADES ONE – FIVE – Ramona Quimby - Based on the books by Newbery Award winner Beverly Cleary
Hold on to your hats as we follow the latest adventure of the world's most animated 3rd grader. Ramona's life is a mess! Her older sister Beezus is a pain, her Aunt Bea may marry a dork, and her Dad just lost his job. She even thinks that her teacher hates her. Life is no picnic, and growing up isn't easy. But with the help of her loving and patient family and friends, Ramona faces these challenges -- as audiences laugh and cheer her on. Date – Thursday, March 15, 2007, 10:00 and 12:00 performances.
