CISV Announces 2007 International Programs

The Chattanooga Chapter of Children’s International Summer Villages (CISV) recently announced its 2007 programs for young people ages 11 to 18. CISV was established in 1951 as a non-profit volunteer organization that offers children and adults the opportunity to learn about other cultures and form friendships with people from around the world. All programs are in the summer of 2007 unless otherwise noted.
Eleven-year-olds from the Chattanooga area can attend a CISV Village in one of three locations: Lyon, France; San Salvador, El Salvador; or Biloxi, Mississippi. Delegations of 11-year-olds—two boys, two girls and an adult leader—from at least ten different countries will come together for four weeks at each Village to form lasting friendships. The chapter also is seeking adult leaders over the age of 21 to travel with the three delegations.
Twelve and thirteen-year-olds are invited to apply for an Interchange program in Bangkok, Thailand. Delegates from Chattanooga and Thailand will spend three weeks together in Thailand starting in December 2007, and three weeks in Chattanooga during the summer of 2008. Delegates will travel with an adult leader and stay with host families.
For fourteen-year-olds, CISV is offering a summer camp in San Francisco, California. Two boys, two girls and an adult leader will travel to the camp, where the youth will share responsibility for developing and leading activities. Delegations from nine other countries will participate in the summer camp.
The chapter also announced two openings for 16- or 17-year olds to serve as Junior Counselors at CISV Villages: a girl to Vaasa, Finland, and a boy to Kiel, Germany. Chattanooga can also send a 16- to 18-year-old boy or girl to a two-week International Youth Meeting in Calgary, Canada.
CISV is holding an Information Day for anyone interested in being a youth delegate or an adult leader on Sunday, January 7, 2007, from 2 to 4 pm, at Grace Episcopal Church at the corner of Brainerd and Belvoir Rds.
