The GRAPEViNE of Chattanooga is proud to announce two new product lines – MBS Mountainboards and the Chattanooga Long Board Company. What is a mountainboard, you ask? A mountainboard is part skateboard, part snowboard and part bicycle. They include a rugged deck, adjustable steering system, air filled tires and an open-heel binding system and can be outfitted with a hand-held reverse V brake system.
Okay, so what is mountainboarding? Mountainboarding combines the carving and freestyle aspects of snowboarding, skateboarding and surfing with the trail and mountain riding aspects of mountain biking and BMX. Mountainboarding is one of the nation's fastest growing extreme sports. Although mountainboarding combines aspects of other sports it is a sport in its own right with its own culture and history. Mountainboarding is the best sport in the world because you can do it anytime and anywhere.
You can ride a mountainboard almost anywhere. In fact you really need only a 5 degree slope to have enough speed in which to carve. Generally grass hills are an ideal place to learn. Additionally you can ride on BMX tracks, dirt roads and pavement. The question is more, "Where can't I ride my mountainboard?"
Mountainboarding got started in 1991 when friends Jason Lee and Patrick McConnell were snowboarding at Heavenly Valley Resort in Northern California when they decided it would be a fun idea to make something for snowboarders to use in the off-season to keep in shape and practice their moves. Almost 18 years later their company, MBS Mountainboards is still going strong selling boards into over 30 countries around the world.
Mountainboarding is quite easy to learn for anyone with generally good balance. In fact it is much easier to learn than snowboarding. Within one hour most people can learn how to carve in both directions and in total control.
It is recommended that additional gear such as a helmet, elbow pads, wrist guards, leather gloves, long pants, knee pads, sturdy shoes, and eye protection be used. The safer you feel the better you will ride and when you do take the eventual tumble you'll get right back up and ready to ride again.
For performance style mountainboarding, the GRAPEViNE carries the Core 90 and Core 95 MBS Mountainboards. These mountainboards are great for off-road traction and all terrains. For the younger person, the lighter weight Atom 80 and Atom 95 offer great contact and control and can tackle all types of terrain. All the MBS Mountainboards described here are available in Chattanooga at the GRAPEViNE, 2601 Broad Street.
Another new product for the GRAPEViNE is the longboard. A longboard is a skateboard with a longer and sometimes wider shape used for longboarding. They are most commonly used for either downhill racing or transportation. Longboards can be shaped in various different ways, depending on the type of riding intended. Their greater weight and bulk makes them less suitable for many skateboarding tricks. Longboarding is often compared to surfing on concrete. Longboard equipment is very similar to skateboard equipment. It is most common for longboarders to wear gloves and a helmet. Wrist, elbow, knee, and groin protection are always recommended. The Chattanooga Longboard Company longboards are original designs exclusive to the GRAPEViNE. For more information call the GRAPEViNE at .
