Ice-cream party at the McGann's |
PARADE UPDATE
Our first parade/ice cream social was a huge success. SEE THE NEWEST PICTURE!! Over 100 attended and many wore great costumes and decorated their “vehicles.” Linda and Kate McGann fashioned unique prizes for the categories and all the kids received party favors. Next year will surely be even bigger and better. Linda Kelley, who lives across from Kathleen Kelly, will do a bulletin board at our CVS, so drop by and get a reprint made of a favorite shot. This is a great service on her part. Please share this info as there will be no flier. Thank you notes have been sent to our police and fire departments for their help. The McGanns were wonderful and generous hosts. Al and Betty Jones and Pat Vincent of Fern Trail were the greatest scoopers. And the rain held off so we could have a FABULOUS FUN DAY.
I.We raised over $3,000.00 at the Marrcrest Christmas Supper. We made a donation to the Signal Mtn. Welfare Council to help any of our own area residents, especially with higher sewer charges.
II.Installing street lamps is proving to be less than feasible with the Town’s ability to assume maintenance and other factors. The EPB estimates are very high--$2500 to $4500 per location, so we are exploring other options such as custom designed street signs for the historic district and poles for banners. They resemble street lamps but have finials rather than globes. We are coordinating efforts with Robert White and the Signal Mtn. Historic District. Letters about that are forthcoming. In May we will launch a fund raising campaign once we know how much we will need. I hope to have a display of what we are considering at the parade.
