The Welcome Mat - Newcomers of Signal Mountain Newsletter

By
Newcomers Newsletter Editor

Message from the Co-directors

The March meeting was a really sweet one. Thom Benson's wife, Sandy, sent Thom to Bachman with a big box of her yummy and beautifully decorated cookies. We all got to bring one home. Those that attended were also treated to lots of information on how a woman can become financially savvy. Ward Petty from A.G. Edwards & Sons, Inc. was our speaker. He explained ways to make our husbands see that a woman is a valuable resource in planning for the family's future. A.G. Edwards is also going to be the benefactor in our Spring Auction. Newcomer members will be receiving a letter explaining how each and every one of us is being called upon to make this year’s auction a success. Since we are changing the format this year, we need lots of help in pulling it off. Tickets will be available at the next meeting. Please see Allie Levine's column in this newsletter for detailed information.

Please make sure to put our next meeting on your calendar. Tickets for the auction will be available and we will be discussing some final details. We want everyone to have input...it's YOUR fundraiser! Also, it is time to plan the 2 board. It is especially important for those newer members to take positions. Please think about what you might like to do next year. Soon you will be contacted by a member of our nominating committee. A more rewarding job you'll never find! See you in April.

Vicki Love, and Dominique Gable,

The Newcomers Meeting will be held Tuesday, April 2 at 10:00 a.m. at The Bachman Community Center. Board members will meet promptly at 9:15 a.m.

ATTENTION ALL GARDENERS (and wannabe gardeners)!!Come to the April 2d meeting and hear Mary Eldridge from The Little Green House speak about spring plants and creating spring planters!!

BABYSITTING
Babysitting is available during our monthly meetings/ luncheon from 9:30a.m. – 1:30 p.m. This is offered for a fee of $3/hr for one child and $1/hr for each additional child (cash only please). Signal Mountain Baptist Church graciously allows the use of their nursery but requires that all children be able to walk (infants and pre-walkers are welcome at the meeting). You can make reservations by calling Arlina Hensley at by the Friday before the meeting. You may call later to see if openings are still available. Remember to bring drinks, snacks, and lunch for your child if you will be attending the luncheon.

Well ladies, our time is quickly coming to an end and the seventh annual Newcomers Auction is almost here. Our Red White and Blue Blowout will be on Saturday, April 27, 2002, at seven o'clock at the Signal Mountain Golf and Country Club. Tickets are now available for advance purchase through Dominique Gable. The cost is $25/person. There will be lots of delicious food, a lively atmosphere, and tons of great items up for grabs. All we are missing is you! So call Dominique at and reserve your tickets today! Once you all have your tickets ordered, the Solicitation Committee for the auction would like to remind all members that they would greatly appreciate if everyone could help and either donate a service or an item to the auction. Phyllis Angel-Roark () can help you out if you are stuck for an idea. She has a list of several suggestions for baskets, items, or services that would go over well at the auction. Please contact Phyllis with any questions and bring your item to the next meeting in April or call for someone to pick it up. And if you are still at a loss for what to do, you can also call Phyllis and volunteer to make a few follow-up calls with our merchants or help out with picking up donated items. These are great ways to help out if you need a flexible placement or are short on time. Thanks girls!

And finally, all board members need to remember that they are responsible for making a basket/donation for the auction. Call Phyllis for ideas if you get stuck and to ensure that we don't get duplicates. (One basket per group, i.e., Bunco, Ladies’ Night Out, Book Club, Play Group, etc.) Baskets are due at our April meeting!!!

Thanks for all your help and please call Allie Levine () or Wendy Hagen () with any questions.
