THE WELCOME MAT - Newcomers of Signal Mountain November Newsletter

By
Newcomers Newsletter Editor

Message from the Co-directors

As we begin to surrender our shorts and tee shirts for jeans and sweatshirts, sip hot tea instead of iced, and rake the leaves in the lawn instead of mowing it, one realizes that fall is finally here and that can only mean one thing: the Holidays are just around the corner.

To kick off the beginning of the Holiday season, we will hold our Annual Holiday Market at the November 6th meeting. We will have vendors selling toys, cookware, beauty products, home decor items, women?s clothing and more! So bring a friend and get a head start on that holiday shopping for family, friends or even yourself!

Since holiday time is also giving and sharing time, please think about those who are less fortunate here on the mountain. At the November meeting we will be taking donations for the Welfare Council?s annual Toy Drive. Please bring a new, unwrapped toy for toddler boys and/or girls, or a check payable to the Signal Mountain Welfare Council.

Lastly, we would like to thank Mechele del Valle for bringing her accounting expertise to Newcomers by becoming our new Treasurer.

We hope to see everyone at the Holiday Market. Remember: this is not just for Newcomers, so bring a friend!

Our next meeting is November 6th at the Bachman Center (10:00a.m.). See you there!

Vickie Love, and Dominique Gable,

The Newcomers Meeting will be held Tuesday, November 6, at 10:00 a.m. at the Bachman Community Center. No Board Meeting this Month!!

Fundraising Committee
With the holiday season just around the corner, the Newcomers are gearing up for a busy season of fun and FUNdraising! We have many events that need volunteers and we are sure to find a match for any busy newcomer?s schedule!

*Christmas Tree Lighting at MACC: We need volunteers to assist Santa with the children and to take Polaroid pictures. We also need volunteers to make Christmas goodies and others to sell them at our hot chocolate & cider table (Dec. 7 @ 7:00).
*Silent Auction: Even though the auction is months away, it is time to start forming our committees. We are looking into ?teams? of Newcomers to assist with our search for new donors. Please be thinking of any friends or family members who may offer a service or have access to items that may be solicited for our auction. More on this at our next meeting.
*Cookbook: In your newsletter you should receive a recipe submission form. Please copy this as needed if submitting more than one recipe. Deadline for recipes is November 6!! The ?category? line denotes what type of recipe it is (dessert, etc.), and please let us know if it would fit into a sub-category such as Quick & Easy, Low Cal, etc. Please contact Allie Levine (), Wendy Hagen () or Jeannie Nolan () with any questions.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!
The Hospitality Committee needs an assistant who is willing to coordinate special meals for members in need and to submit announcements of needs to the Newsletter.

Also, we need a Programming Chairperson to begin coordinating the meeting programs. Only 4 months remain, beginning in January 2002, so here?s your chance to plan meetings around topics and celebrities of your choice!

Please contact Dominique () or Vicki () if you can help.
