Field Trip Opportunities:
Tour of the Shallowford Rd. Postal Facility: Wednesday, September 17; Meet at the facility (6050 Shallowford Road) at 10:15 AM sharp! Cost: Free. Tour lasts approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Bring a picnic lunch and we can eat together afterwards. Notice: No children under 8 years old.
Fidelio - Opera Dress Rehearsal; The only opera written by Beethoven. Thursday, September 18 at the Tivoli Theater. Be there at 6:45 PM Sharp! Cost is $10 for adults and $7 for students. Get payment to Allyson by the picnic (September 12) or go on your own. Meet Allyson Kinard in the lobby.
Opera Tell Stories - Fidelio. This is a 45-minute condensation of the opera by Beethoven. Tuesday, September 23, starting at 12:00 noon at the Tivoli Theater. Cost is $3.50 per person, except lapsitters. Get payment to Allyson Kinard by Tuesday, September 16. Upon arrival, see hosts to find oyut where Signal Mountain Homeschoolers should sit. Allyson will not be there.
American Museum of Science and Energy in Oak Ridge, TN. Thursday, October 2. Meet at Bi-Lo at 8:30 AM to caravan. We will be at the museum from 11:00 - 2:00. Cost is $3 for adults, $2 for students. Pay upon arrival. We can picnic together outside. This is an excellent science museum!

Regular Shows: Homeschool teachers are welcome to join in with the regularly scheduled shows. Simply call the Science Theatre to check on when shows of interest to you are scheduled. Be sure to call them on the morning of the show and confirm that the group scheduled has not canceled.
2-Hour Science Labs: This will be a special afternoon "hands on" science lab when children may experiment and learn scientific principles in greater depth. Labs will be one topic per month and each week introduces that topic at different grade levels. Class size will be very limited. The classes are currently running on Wednesday afternoons between 2:30 and 4:30 PM. Reservations are required. Call for further information and a listing of topics.
Home School Teaching Workshop: Once a year the Science Theatre offers a special workshop that will aid the homeschool teacher in interpretive teaching techniques, science and math knowledge, mnemonic (memory retention) devices and locating resources. Call for more information.
Holiday programs for 2003: This year's holiday programs and times will be listed in the Special Events section on the Science Theatre's website.
Linda Neuhoff will be hosting the monthly book reports in her home this year (2608 Wilson Avenue). They are scheduled for the 2nd Friday of each month (except for January); time is 11:00 AM - Noon. Call her if you have questions
