Community Garden Beds at Bachman Now Available

By
Director, Bachman Community Center

Bachman Community Center is renting garden beds at the Center. The Community Garden has 18 full beds and 9 half beds available. Each bed receives late morning and afternoon sun. The Community Garden at Bachman is open to all ages and gardening levels. Bachman Community Center is a member of the American Community Gardening Association.

Community gardens improve the quality of life for people by providing the opportunity for community development, stimulate social interaction, produce nutritious food, reduce food budgets and provide multi-generational family activities.

Bachman tills and lays out the beds and provides compost at the beginning of each season. Bachman also provides water to the garden area. The gardener does all other work. The hours for the Community Garden are from dawn to dusk beginning May 13th. The Community Garden is organic and only natural pest control may be used. The gardener is responsible for ongoing work in the rental bed and for cleaning the bed at the end of the season. A 3’ -wide path divides each bed. A composting area is also available.

The bed rentals for the 2006 season are $30 for a full bed and $15 for a half bed. Many varieties of herbs, vegetables and flowers may be planted. No illegal crops may be planted.
